A Memphis Small Business Website Checklist

Hardly any of this is about looks. It is whether a stranger can work out that you stop at how far past the 240 loop you go, when a person picks up, and what it runs.

Say how far east you actually go

Serving Memphis means nothing on its own. The county runs from the river out past Collierville, and somebody in Arlington has no idea whether a shop photographed in Midtown will drive that far.

Put the line where you dispatch it. Inside the 240 loop. East county on scheduled days only. Across the state line by quote. It reads as refusing work and mostly it removes calls you were going to turn down anyway.

Talk about termites without being asked

Subterranean termites work year round here and swarm every spring, and almost every older house in this city has either been treated or will be.

If your trade touches wood, moisture, or foundations, say how you inspect and what you find most often. Homeowners here already know the problem exists and are looking for somebody who talks about it plainly.

Answer the crawlspace question

Much of Midtown and South Memphis sits on pier and beam over a crawlspace that stays damp most of the year. That drives mold, floor sag, duct failure, and pest problems all at once.

Explain what you do down there and what you charge to look. A homeowner who has been told three different stories will book the one who explained it clearly.

Say what you do the morning after a storm

One line of storms can put trees across half the streets in a neighborhood and leave whole blocks without power for days.

State it plainly. Same-day tarping. Tree work inside forty-eight hours. We wait with you for the utility. Vagueness in that window loses the job to whoever was specific.

Put the licence number in the footer

Tennessee licenses contractors through the state board, and customers do look it up, particularly after storms bring crews in from out of town.

Footer of every page rather than an about page nobody opens. It is the cheapest way to separate a real pest and moisture crew from the crew already parked on that street.

Write the Spanish pages properly

An automatic overlay is not a Spanish page. It cannot rank on its own and it mangles trade vocabulary in ways that lose trust rather than build it.

Written pages reach a real and growing share of this market, and in most trades here nobody has bothered to make them.

Photograph houses that look like theirs

A stock kitchen communicates nothing. Sill replacement under a shotgun house off McLemore, with the same brick piers in shot, tells a homeowner you have done their exact job on their exact street.

Phone photographs are fine. Work around ninety percent humidity rather than against it, and keep the frames that show compressors finished rather than halfway apart.

Put a figure next to each service

Leaving the price off reads as expensive. A floor, a range, what compressor usually runs, or a flat inspection fee gives a homeowner enough to act on.

Publish a band and the phone rings less but converts better, because whoever calls has already made peace with the number.

Keep the listing and the site telling one story

Hours, coverage, categories, and phone number have to agree between the map listing and the site. Where they conflict, somebody in Cooper-Young believes the listing.

Check it after every storm week, when the hours are not remotely what they normally are.
